This Week’s Essential StateImpact

It’s been a busy week at StateImpact New Hampshire.  We were trucking along on our expected path, when a handy-dandy report from the Project on Student Debt came out, ranking the Granite State #1 for student debt load.  So we pounced on it.  And not surprisingly, this topic’s dominated our click-counter.

You can catch our top five posts of the week after the jump.  If you missed one, or just want to double-check something, just click on the title.

  1. Student Debt Reaches Record Levels–And NH Leads The Pack: The Post That Launched A Thousand Little Posts!  This synthesis of state and national coverage got us thinking–and you too, it seems!
  2. How Lower Cig Taxes And Lackluster Sales Fit Into The Bigger Revenue Picture: This is one of those stories that picked up steam from last week, and carried over into this week.  A look at the Legislature’s controversial decision last summer to lower the cigarette tax by 10 cents a pack is only the beginning of the analysis.
  3. Senator Ayotte Sponsors Bipartisan Bill Aimed At Keeping Internet Sales Tax Free: Another story that StateImpact readers caught last week, and passed around.  We love our tax stories, so expect to see more like this.
  4. StateImpact’s Delving Behind The Student Debt Numbers At Dartmouth And UNH: This piece follows up on our first student debt post.  We point out the oddities of some of the stats noted on our initial post, and preview what we’ll be looking at over the next few days.
  5. Is New Hampshire Really As Anti-Tax As It’s Cracked Up To Be?: Some of our posts have serious legs.  This is one of them.  We published this in late October, and a lot of people are still reading–and commenting.
