This Week’s Essential StateImpact

These are the five StateImpact posts that drew the most traffic, so we think you probably liked them the best.

As we promised last Friday, we’ve been keeping track of which posts got the most clicks this week.  So without further ado…here’s our inaugural Essential StateImpact post for the week:

  1. Nine Essential Takeaways From The Fed’s Report On Foreclosure Prevention: A look at what works–and what doesn’t–when state and city governments try to keep people in their homes.  New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Philadelphia figure prominently in the Fed paper–and our report.
  2. For New Hampshire, Cain’s 9-9-9 Means New Taxes:  Herman Cain’s tax plan could fit onto a bumper sticker.  A nine percent corporate, personal income, and federal sales tax sounds simple.  That is, unless you live in a sales-tax-free state like New Hampshire.
  3. Are Small Businesses Really An Innovative Economic Engine?:  A pair of economists at the University of Chicago argue that small businesses aren’t the job generators they’re cracked up to be.  They say policy makers are confusing small businesses with entrepreneurs as they try to jump-start the economy with special programs.  We take that report, and put it in the context of New Hampshire’s business landscape.
  4. Map: Where Lowe’s Is Closing:  After Lowe’s announced it’s closing 20 stores nationwide–three in New Hampshire–we just had to find out where all of these stores were, and which regions were hardest hit.
  5. Losing The Lottery: What The New Hampshire Lottery Pays For:  The first piece in a series we’re launching about how the state lottery competes in New England’s heated lotto market.
