Kenny Cooper is WHYY’s suburban reporter covering Montgomery and Delaware counties. He joined WHYY in November 2020. As a native of Montgomery County, Pa, Kenny graduated in 2020 from Temple University with a BA in journalism and political science.

Prior to WHYY, he covered Pennsylvania state politics through an Election SOS fellowship at the Pennsylvania Capital-Star. In early 2020, Kenny was selected to be a participant in the POLITICO Journalism Institute. He has interned at numerous news outlets including CNN, NBC News & MSNBC, NBC Sports Philadelphia, and Fox 29.

Major export terminal pitched in Chester sets up clash between Biden’s LNG, environmental justice goals

Penn America Energy wants to construct a massive LNG export terminal along the Delaware River in Chester.

In this photo from May 2018, Mariner East 2 pipeline construction crews work in the backyards of homes on Lisa Drive in West Whiteland Township, Chester County. The area has dealt with a number of sinkholes, including one on July 6, 2023. The problem led to Energy Transfer buying at least five homes along Lisa Drive after the aquifer there was damaged.

Most charges dropped against two state constables involved in alleged Mariner East pipeline ‘buy-a-badge’ scheme

A jury found the constables guilty of failing to disclose wages earned from Energy Transfer Partners’ Sunoco Logistics unit. Bribery and other charges were dropped.
