UGI Energy Services will hold two public meetings this month on a proposed 20-inch, 35-mile natural gas pipeline.

If approved by federal regulators, the Sunbury Pipeline would begin in Lycoming County and end at a proposed natural gas-fired power plant near Shamokin Dam, in Snyder County. The $150 million project comes amid a flurry of other pipelines in Pennsylvania, as energy companies work to move the abundant Marcellus Shale gas to new markets.

From UGI’s press release:

The company’s team of experts will be available at various stations, including safety, pipeline engineering and construction, land and restoration.

The first open house will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Lairdsville Volunteer Fire Department, 143 School Lane, Lairdsville, Pennsylvania. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The second open house will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Sunbury Social Club, 352 East Drive, Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The public meetings are required as part of the pre-filing process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC.)

If approved by FERC, pipeline construction is expected to begin in early 2016. The new gas power plant would open in 2017.
