Potent Potables: What Is Marcellus Shale?

Via the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the Marcellus Shale has reached another cultural milestone: it was recently the answer to a question (or the question to an answer?) on Jeopardy.
Though not as hip as the formation’s appearance in Dr. Dog lyrics, the Jeopardy reference is nevertheless another sign of the shale formation’s prominent role in the domestic energy picture.
However, Marcellus Shale hasn’t still hasn’t gone completely mainstream:  none of the contestants got the question right. Here’s the video:
