DEP Says 2011 Spill Was Larger Than Initial Reports Indicated

The Department of Environmental Protection says a December spill at a Washington County well was larger than initially thought. Again, the Tribune-Review has more:

A gas well leak in Washington County likely involved 80 barrels of condensate, or wet natural gas, in the soil instead of two barrels, the state Department of Environmental Protection said on Friday.
DEP officials made the conclusion following a meeting with Chevron-Appalachia officials to review remediation work in Robinson, said DEP spokesman John Poister.
“The scope of the cleanup from the December spill is much more far reaching than originally thought,” Poister said.
One barrel contains 42 gallons of condensate. Chevron filled 113 large trash bins with soil, equal to about 1,000 cubic yards, from the site. Crews will transfer that to a landfill.
