The Department of Environmental Protection says it will help fund the development of natural gas and electric powered vehicles. The “Alternative Fuel Incentive Grants” will go to 12 projects across the state. The DEP says the conversions from gas and diesel will have the same effect as eliminating 10,000 cars from the state’s roadways.
The projects include natural gas powered taxis, delivery trucks, and shuttle busses. The money will also go toward the construction of natural gas fueling stations, and solar-powered charging stations for electric vehicles. The grants are funded by the state’s utility gross receipts tax.
