PPL Lays Out New Power Line Route

  • Scott Detrow

PPL has announced a route for a new power line it says will improve electricity for 250,000 customers in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Morning Call has more details.

The $200 million project will construct three new substations, build 60 miles of new 230-kilovolt power lines and rebuild 20 miles of existing 69 kilovolt lines for customers in parts of Lackawanna, Monroe, Wayne, Pike and Luzerne counties.
It’s part of $3.4 billion in infrastructure improvements PPL has planned throughout its 29-county service area between 2011 and 2015.
The new transmission line would start at an existing substation in Jenkins, north of Wilkes-Barre, head southeast to a new West Pocono substation north of Blakeslee, northeast to a new North Pocono substation north of Gouldsboro, continuing northeast to the third new Paupack substation near Lakeville.
