Susquehanna River Basin Commission Joins Twitter

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission is now on Twitter, with the handle @SRBCnews.
The group regulates water withdrawals in central and northern Pennsylvania.
Its latest tweet announces withdrawal moratoriums are still in place at 18 locations, due to low water levels. That means natural gas drillers who take water from those streams and creeks in Blair, Bradford, Lycoming, Potter Tioga and Wyoming Counties need to get their fluids elsewhere.
The withdrawal suspension first went into effect about a month ago, and has gradually winnowed, as rain levels increased. As the commission’s website explains, “The suspended withdrawals are part of SRBC’s passby flow requirement to protect aquatic resources and downstream water users.  When streams drop below pre-determined protective flow levels, project sponsors who are required to meet SRBC’s passby requirement must stop taking water.  They cannot resume taking water until streams have recovered above the protected level for at least 48 hours.”
