The House's Top Republican, Mike Turzai

Background

As House Majority Leader, Mike Turzai sets House Republican policy, and plays a major role in determining which bills are called for a vote.

Turzai was elected majority leader in November, 2010, after the GOP won a 21-seat House majority. The Allegheny County lawmaker previously served as minority whip, and was first elected in 2001.

Turzai is a staunch conservative, and has worked to lower state spending and taxes. On energy issues, he’s against a severance tax or impact fee on natural gas drillers.
