Some news from late last week, when the StateImpact reporting team was knee-deep in vats of eggnog: Cabot Oil and Gas finished the year as the S&P 500’s top performer. The energy company’s stock value increased by 101% in 2011, despite falling natural gas prices.
Cabot has the fourth-most producing Marcellus Shale wells in Pennsylvania, based on January-June reports. The company has racked up more than 220 violations, though, including high-profile methane migration issues in Dimock, Susquehanna County.  (Check out every Cabot well and violation at StateImpact’s new “Shale Play” app.)
