It’s been nearly a year since 33 Chilean miners were rescued after spending 69 days trapped deep underground.
As the South American country ponders what sort of memorial it wants to build, Chilean television reporters are visiting the site of the Quecreek Mine in Somerset County, where a statue and partially-complete museum commemorate the 2002 rescue of nine trapped miners.
The country of Chile is approaching the one year anniversary of the biggest mine disaster in history. But the Chilean mine rescue is a closed site and there is no memorial to visit.”This is a perfect example of how you build upon your story, your history, your good news,” said Chilean television reporter Amaro Gomez-Pablos. “And we want to do the same.”Chilean television made the trip to Somerset County on Wednesday to film a feature story. Their hope is that their country will see the Quecreek memorial and design a similar site.
