Last week, a victims\u2019 rights coalition in Midland\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrt.com\/top_stories\/article_59f8c0c6-bf77-11e3-8ae1-001a4bcf887a.html\" target=\"_blank\">held a panel discussion<\/a>\u00a0on how to deal with the region\u2019s increasingly dangerous roads.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers of the event say most of those wrecks stem from the \u201c3 D\u2019s\u201d \u2013 drugs, drinking and distracted driving. Police Chief Price Robinson says since then, they\u2019ve also been teaching companies directly how to keep their drivers trained and safe as possible.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s yet to be seen whether more patrol cars and more calls for safety will be enough to stop the rising death toll on the region\u2019s road \u2013 so far this year there have been 24 fatal wrecks in Midland and Ector Counties combined.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>Travis Bubenik contributed reporting to this story.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Since KXWT received\u00a0those\u00a0fatality numbers from TxDOT, yet another person had died in a car accident, bringing the total number of fatal traffic accidents in Midland and Ector Counties combined to 24.\u00a0Fatal accidents are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrt.com\/news\/crime\/article_c9575fa6-c691-11e3-b2fe-001a4bcf887a.html\" target=\"_blank\">now averaging 1 per week<\/a>\u00a0in Midland County alone.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From KXWT West Texas Public Radio:\u00a0 If you follow\u00a0local headlines\u00a0in Midland-Odessa, it seems like there\u2019s a fatal car crash every couple of days.
