And thanks in large part to the advent of drilling\u00a0techniques\u00a0like horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, or &#8220;fracking,&#8221; Texas is producing more of it than any other state.<\/p>\n<p>This map shows how much natural gas each county produced from wells between June 2012 and June 2013. Like our oil production map,\u00a0the data comes from the Railroad Commission of Texas&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.rrc.state.tx.us\/PDQ\/generalReportAction.do\">data query feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Significant natural gas operations are spread throughout the state, but the most intense production occurs in the <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/tag\/eagle-ford-shale\/\">Eagle Ford Shale<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barnett_Shale\">Barnett Shale<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Permian_Basin_(North_America)\">Permian Basin<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas holds about 23 percent of the country&#8217;s natural gas reserves.
