But it&#8217;s also having an impact on roads, water and the culture of West Texas. So please join us if you can tonight, Tuesday, August 13th, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utpb.edu\/\">University of Texas of the Permian Basin<\/a> in Odessa, at a special forum to discuss these issues.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/\">StateImpact Texas <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/kxwt.org\/\">KXWT West Texas Public Radio<\/a> will host a panel discussion and community forum tonight, &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/493368064074950\/\">Drilling Down: How Oil and Gas Exploration is Affecting Our\u00a0Land, Water and Community<\/a>.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Our panel will consist of energy industry experts and community representatives to discuss the impact of oil and gas drilling in West Texas. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utpb.edu\/media\/pdf\/utpbcampusmap2005.pdf\">Cooper Auditorium in the Science and Technology<\/a> building at UTPB.\u00a0The public is invited to ask questions of the panel as part of the community forum.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll discuss how drilling is changing West Texas, from its impact on the economy, to the strain on roads and housing, to balancing water demands.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The panelists include: <strong>Kirk Edwards<\/strong>, President of Las Colinas Energy Partners;<strong> Libby Campbell<\/strong>, Executive Director of the West Texas Food Bank; <strong>Gil Van Deventer<\/strong>, Senior Hydrologist at Trident Environmental;<strong> W. Hoxie Smith<\/strong>, director of Midland College&#8217;s Petroleum Professional Development Center; and <strong>Paul Weatherby<\/strong>, District Manager for the Middle Pecos Groundwater District in Fort Stockton. The panel will be moderated by <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/author\/thenry\/\">Terrence Henry <\/a>of KUT&#8217;s StateImpact Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Please join us tonight for this community event.
