{"id":12498,"date":"2012-06-13T07:01:59","date_gmt":"2012-06-13T12:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/?p=12498"},"modified":"2012-06-13T08:03:53","modified_gmt":"2012-06-13T13:03:53","slug":"general-manager-out-at-edwards-aquifer-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/2012\/06\/13\/general-manager-out-at-edwards-aquifer-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"General Manager Out at Edwards Aquifer Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_12010\"  class=\"wp-caption module image right\" style=\"max-width: 128px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/2012\/06\/05\/edwards-aquifer-authority-manager-placed-on-leave\/gm_sm\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12010\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12010\" title=\"GM_sm\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/files\/2012\/06\/GM_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Photo by EAA<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">EAA general manager Karl Dreher was let go Tuesday evening.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/2012\/06\/05\/edwards-aquifer-authority-manager-placed-on-leave\/\"> being placed on administrative leave last week<\/a>, the general manager of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwardsaquifer.org\/\">Edwards Aquifer Authority<\/a> (EAA), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwardsaquifer.org\/display_authority_s.php?pg=GMBio\">Karl Dreher<\/a>,\u00a0has now been let go, effective immediately.<\/p>\n<p>The Authority manages the groundwater district of the Edwards Aquifer, which includes San Antonio and many of the surrounding counties,\u00a0producing drinking water for more than 2 million people in Central Texas.<\/p>\n<p>At a board meeting Tuesday, the EAA appointed\u00a0Roland Ruiz to serve as interim general manager. The board said Ruiz will be in that position until they decide on a &#8220;permanent successor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ruiz handles communications for the EAA, and has been with the authority since May 2006. &#8220;He will assume the responsibilities of the general manager on an interim basis effective immediately,&#8221; the EAA said in a release late Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>It still isn\u2019t clear why Dreher was placed on administrative leave. He\u00a0was appointed general manger of the Authority in early 2010. Previously he was a director of water resources for Idaho and consulted on groundwater disputes in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republican_River\">Republican\u00a0River Basin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> The San Antonio Express-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/living_green_sa\/article\/Edwards-Aquifer-Authority-votes-8-6-to-replace-3629324.php#ixzz1xg5uIhuH\">reports<\/a> that the board voted 8 to 6 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/living_green_sa\/article\/Edwards-Aquifer-Authority-votes-8-6-to-replace-3629324.php#ixzz1xg5uIhuH\">terminate its contract with Dreher<\/a>. The paper writes that Chairwoman Luana Buckner said that &#8220;\u201cKarl actually did a very good job for our agency.
