An EAA spokesperson confirmed the news today to StateImpact Texas, which was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local_news\/article\/Edwards-Aquifer-Authority-manager-placed-on-leave-3608535.php\">first reported <\/a>in the <em>San Antonio Express-News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Authority manages the groundwater district of the Edwards Aquifer, which includes San Antonio and many of the surrounding counties,\u00a0producing drinking water for more than 2 million people in Central Texas.<\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t clear why Dreher was placed on administrative leave.\u00a0Assistant General Manager for Communications &amp; External Affairs Roland Ruiz said that &#8220;as a personnel matter, there is no statement other than to confirm that the action did occur.&#8221; Ruiz also confirmed that Dreher was placed on leave by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edwardsaquifer.org\/display_authority_s.php?pg=district13\">Laura Buckner<\/a>, chair of the EAA board of directors. He\u00a0says the decision will be taken up by the board at its next meeting June 12.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Authority lost a decision in the Texas Supreme Court earlier this year,<a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/texas\/2012\/03\/01\/taking-a-deeper-look-at-the-texas-supreme-courts-ruling-on-water\/\">\u00a0Edwards Aquifer Authority V. Burrell Day and Joel McDaniel<\/a>.\u00a0The ruling found that the Authority could compensate\u00a0ranchers\u00a0Day and McDaniel for groundwater regulations that limited the amount of groundwater the two landowners pulled from their land. The Authority had argued that allowing compensation could open the floodgates to a wave of litigation from other landowners in similar cases.
