Why? Because <em>California&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>prison overcrowding problem isn&#8217;t as bad as it used to be.<\/p><p>Corrections Corporation of America, which runs the private facility, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2012\/07\/13\/4630504\/california-to-withdraw-inmates.html\">told<\/a> Elk City&#8217;s KECO radio it\u2019s too early to tell whether any of the 400 workers employed at the prison will be affected.<\/p><p>California Department of Corrections spokeswoman Dana Simas says the move has nothing to do with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CEwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnewsok.com%2Fsayre-prison-riot-yields-2700-page-report-charges-are-likely-coming%2Farticle%2F3672201&ei=SU0EUNCQEuqQ2AXG3b2gCw&usg=AFQjCNEAcVNpRvSYGvGslaa0V-CZ-XKuTA\">the October 2011 riot<\/a>, which sent at least 46 offenders to area hospitals.<\/p><p><!--more--><\/p><p>California moved 2,000 inmates to the North Fork prison to ease overcrowding, which became so bad by the end of the last decade that a federal court <a title=\"Federal order\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/News\/3_judge_panel_decision.html\">intervened<\/a> and ordered a reduction in the state\u2019s prison population.<\/p><p>Housing California inmates in Oklahoma was never meant to be a permanent solution, Simas tells StateImpact.<\/p><p>Basically, California doesn\u2019t need North Fork anymore.\u00a0By placing nonviolent offenders in county jails, California has <a title=\"Cali's plan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/realignment\/\">freed up<\/a> about 20,000 beds at state prisons and no longer needs Oklahoma to house its inmate overflow.<\/p><p>&#8220;We now have the room to bring them home,&#8221; Simas says.<\/p><p>What this all means for the City of Sayre \u2014 population 4,000 \u2014 is unclear.<\/p><p>CCA is Sayre&#8217;s largest employer.
