These very public debates are among adults but affect youth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do their your conversations sound like when talking about the controversial <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kosu.org\/local-news\/julius-jones-clemency\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julius Jones death penalty case<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kosu.org\/show\/stateimpact-oklahoma\/2022-02-24\/how-oklahomas-classroom-curriculum-bans-affect-black-educators-and-families\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">race in the classroom<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? What are the impacts of these parallel but very different conversations? Do they affect the way students behave and how you might act in the future, such as how you perfect <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kosu.org\/education\/2022-03-22\/a-bill-to-prioritize-scholarships-for-tulsa-race-massacre-descendants-passes-through-oklahoma-house\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an application for a scholarship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We plan to capture conversations, creating a time capsule and sharing your concerns with a wider audience, which will hopefully create a richer debate surrounding these issues. It is incredibly important to have these audio stories driven by the thoughts of Oklahoma youth, who have communicated to StateImpact that they don\u2019t feel like their voices really matter to lawmakers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oklahoma is a deeply conservative state politically, but the demographics are rapidly changing. The 2020 Census revealed Tulsa is a majority minority city for the first time since Oklahoma was Indian Territory, and 21% of the state\u2019s population now identifies as Latino.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to empower these young students to tell their own stories.
