But the problem can&#8217;t be blamed oncrumbling pipelines, an obsolete treatment plant, or drought \u2014 though more rain is needed. The problem is silt. The Cleveland Reservoir is nearly 80 years old.<\/p><p><a title=\"FOX23link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fox23.com\/news\/news\/local\/pawnee-county-town-prepares-water-crisis\/nhS3T\/?__federated=1\" target=\"_blank\"><!--more-->From Rick Maranon<\/a> with FOX23 in Tulsa:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our problem is the lake is a 50 year lake built back in 1935, and it&#8217;s silted in, so it doesn&#8217;t hold the capacity that it used to hold,&#8221; said Mayor Brian Torres.<\/p><p>&#8230;Right now the town is\u00a0<em>[sic]\u00a0<\/em>under voluntary water conservation orders, and Torres said that has reduced the city&#8217;s water usage by 10-12 percent.<\/p><p>But that isn&#8217;t enough.<\/p><\/blockquote><p>As StateImpact reported for our 2013 <a title=\"StateImpactLink\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2013\/02\/27\/troubled-water-a-deep-dive-into-oklahomas-most-precious-resource\/\" target=\"_blank\">Troubled Water documentary<\/a>, lakes have a lifespan, after which they can silt over and die. Lawton&#8217;s Lake Waurika is <a title=\"StateImpactLink\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2013\/07\/01\/a-flood-of-rain-and-money-needed-to-save-lake-waurika-from-its-silt\/\" target=\"_blank\">also facing silt issues<\/a>, along with many Oklahoma lakes built in the early to mid-20th century.<\/p><p>Maranon reports the Cleveland&#8217;s city council is looking at groundwater as a potential long-term fix, approving five test wells at Sept. 23 meeting.
