Ray Tuttle reports<\/a>. Here&#8217;s why:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The standards for building oil storage tanks are exacting, Carl Karner, the senior engineering specialist for Tulsa-based\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rrmidstream.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\">Rose Rock Midstream<\/a>, tells the paper. Storage companies follow federal and state laws, and\u00a0also adhere to the standards developed by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.api.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\">American Petroleum Institute<\/a>\u00a0for the construction and maintenance of their facilities.<\/p><p>The API standards have specific seismic design criteria for this region,\u00a0Springer said. Tanks are designed to withstand an earthquake 1,000 times stronger than the magnitude 5.6 quake that struck near Prague in November 2011.
