The bigger the word, the more it&#8217;s used.<\/p>\n<\/div><p>Word count is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/fact-checker\/post\/rick-perrys-flat-tax-plan-built-on-misleading-statistics\/2011\/10\/25\/gIQAmJysGM_blog.html\">hot topic<\/a> among Republican presidential candidates.<\/p><p>The federal tax code is too long, they agree, but just how long depends on who you ask \u2014 and when. Rick Perry said it was 3 million, while Herman Cain\u2019s estimation has varied between 8 and 10 million words.<\/p><p>Data consultant Michael Bommarito and Michigan State Law Professor Daniel Katz <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/news_and_politics\/explainer\/2011\/10\/how_many_words_are_in_the_tax_code_.html\">say<\/a> the Internal Revenue Code\u2019s word count is more like 2.6 million.<\/p><p>Since there\u2019s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulsachamber.com\/news\/327\/news\/803\/fallin-addresses-business-community-at-annual-state-of-the-state-address\">simultaneous discussion<\/a> about reforming the state tax code, we were curious: Just how many words are in Oklahoma\u2019s tax code?<\/p><p><!--more-->Title 68 of the Oklahoma Statutes covers state Revenue and Taxation.<\/p><p>In their analysis of the federal tax code, Bommarito and Katz made an effort to eliminate \u201cnonsubstantive words\u201d like <em>is<\/em>, <em>and<\/em>, or <em>at<\/em>.
