{"id":15555,"date":"2013-08-06T10:35:16","date_gmt":"2013-08-06T15:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/?p=15555"},"modified":"2013-08-06T10:36:04","modified_gmt":"2013-08-06T15:36:04","slug":"oil-and-gas-helped-fuel-record-year-for-oklahoma-tax-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2013\/08\/06\/oil-and-gas-helped-fuel-record-year-for-oklahoma-tax-revenue\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil and Gas Helped Fuel Record Year for Oklahoma Tax Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last 12 months, the state has collected $11.3 billion in tax revenue \u2014 an all-time high, State Treasurer Ken Miller <a href=\"http:\/\/journalrecord.com\/2013\/08\/05\/state-tax-collections-hit-record-high-capitol\/\">said Monday<\/a>.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/kosu.org\/2013\/08\/revenue-reciepts-hit-all-time-high\/\">record tax receipt<\/a> \u2014 $12.6 million higher than the previous record set in December 2008 \u2014 is an indication that Oklahoma has recovered from the Great Recession, Miller said.<\/p><p>One of the tax sectors that showed the most growth over the last was gross production taxes on oil and natural gas, Miller said. The state is benefitting from high oil prices and rebounding natural gas prices, which concerned state revenue officials <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2012\/04\/03\/state-revenue-streak-ends-all-eyes-on-the-energy-industry\/\">last year<\/a>. <em>The Journal Record<\/em>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/journalrecord.com\/2013\/08\/05\/state-tax-collections-hit-record-high-capitol\/\">M. Scott Carter<\/a> breaks it down:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Last year, oil and gas industry officials were concerned that overproduction in the natural gas sector was pushing the price down. Miller said natural gas supplies have decreased and prices have increased.
