Mary Fallin on Monday reiterated her support of the federal production tax credit for wind energy, which expires Dec. 31.<\/p><p>Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney doesn&#8217;t want to renew the credit, which other GOP governors in wind-producing states support. The wind industry supports more than 3,000 jobs in Oklahoma, Fallin <a href=\"http:\/\/newsok.com\/oklahoma-gov.-mary-fallin-continues-support-for-wind-production-tax-credit\/article\/3712886\/?page=1\">tells<\/a> <em>The Oklahoman<\/em>&#8216;s Paul Monies, and <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2012\/09\/10\/one-thing-mitt-romney-and-gov-fallin-disagree-on-wind-energy-tax-credits\/\">the issue highlights a rare split<\/a> between Oklahoma&#8217;s governor and the GOP presidential candidate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI agree with Governor Romney on 99 percent of the issues,\u201d Fallin said Monday in an interview with <em>The Oklahoman<\/em> from the Southern States Energy Board in Oklahoma City. \u201cBut on this one, I&#8217;ve got to do what&#8217;s best for our state.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><p><!--more-->President Barack Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/08\/27\/160131227\/romney-obama-divided-on-wind-energy-tax-credit\">supports extending<\/a> the tax credit.<\/p><p>Uncertainty over the tax credit \u2014 which returns 2.2 cents per kilowatt-hour to wind producers \u2014 has already been cited in wind industry layoffs and factory closures, including downsizing here in Oklahoma. In August, Tulsa-based wind tower manufacturer DMI Industries said it would close its plant and <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/oklahoma\/2012\/08\/08\/tulsa-wind-tower-manufacturer-closing-amid-industry-uncertainty\/\">layoff more than 165 people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A study for the American Wind Energy Association predicts up to 37,000 jobs could be at risk if the credit expires.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oklahoma Gov.
