“Oklahoma Environmental Director Announces Retirement”

The board of the state’s environmental watchdog has started the search for candidates for the post that will be vacated by Thompson, who has helmed the agency since 2002.

The department says Steve Thompson will retire Oct. 1 after serving as director since July 2002. Thompson said in a statement released Monday that he plans to spend more time with his family. Thompson is a 1970 graduate of the University of Oklahoma and previously was director of the Oklahoma Department of Pollution Control and was Assistant Secretary of the Environment.
