“OG&E Refutes Sierra Club Claims”

Oklahoma Gas & Electric is disputing a report by the Oklahoma Sierra Club charging that two of the company’s coal-fueled power plants are violating health standarts related to sulfur dioxide emissions.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency uses monitoring data to determine if areas in a state are in attainment for the SO2 National Ambient Air Quality Standards, [Skylar McElhaney with the state Department of Environmental Quality] said.
“Ambient air-monitoring data from SO2 monitors located in different locations around Oklahoma indicate compliance with the SO2 standards,” she said. “And, no areas of the state have been designated as being in nonattainment for the standard.”
The entire state is considered in attainment.
