“Natural Gas to Power More Vehicles, Fewer Power Plants: IEA”

The International Energy Agency says coal will regain some of the ground it lost to natural gas in power generation in the short term, but that natural gas is “expected to do more to slow oil demand growth than electric vehicles and biofuels combined.”

Natural gas will emerge as a significant transportation fuel in the years to 2018, the International Energy Agency said Thursday.Natural gas’s share in the energy mix will grow about 2.4% a year in the next five years, down from a yearly projection of 2.7% in an earlier report due to lower demand in Europe and production snags in the Middle East and Africa, the IEA said.
