State School Board President Says She Wasn’t Comparing President Obama to Hitler in Facebook Post

State Board of Education President Debe Terhar recently posted a picture of Adolf Hiter to her Facebook page, with accompanying text critical of President Barack Obama’s gun-control efforts announced in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting. But, she says she wasn’t comparing Obama to Hitler. Rather, she says she just wanted people to think about history.

“I’m not comparing the president to Adolf Hitler,” she said. “It’s the thought of disarming citizens, and this has happened throughout history. What’s the true intention of the Second Amendment? It was to protect us from a tyrannical government, God forbid.”

Terhar said she believes schools should have armed guards to protect students in case violence erupts, but that decision should be left to local school boards. The state board has not taken a position on guns and student safety in the wake of the Connecticut massacre.
