Oklahoma Axes The Common Core

Oklahoma’s the latest state to put the Common Core on the chopping block. Republican Gov. Mary Fallin signed a bill dropping the education standards yesterday afternoon.

“The words ‘Common Core’ in Oklahoma are now so divisive that they have become a distraction that interferes with our mission of providing the best education possible for our children,” she said in this Politico article.

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed state legislation repealing the Common Core State Standards, she said Thursday. Spectators until this point were unsure of what she would do as the June 7 deadline to act on the bill approached. Fallin has been a staunch supporter of the standards in the past.
