More Ohio Prisoners Are Earning GEDs

Slowly recovering from a drop over the past few years, more than 2,120 of Ohio’s prisoners earned their GED in 2013. That’s 460 more credentials than were awarded in 2010, the Mansfield News Journal reported.

More Ohio prisoners earned GED diplomas in recent years after a dramatic drop in the late 2000s, according to a prison oversight committee’s report released this week. The number of GED diplomas awarded to prisoners rose more than 27 percent in the past four years: 1,661 diplomas in fiscal year 2010 to 2,121 in fiscal year 2013, which ended in June, according to data in the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee report.
