FBI to Investigate Ohio School Records

The FBI is conducting its own investigation into attendance data scrubbing, specifically looking for fraud or misused funds in Ohio schools, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

The FBI investigation comes on top of an already on-going investigation by the state auditor, which has so far found five school districts suspected of scrubbing their attendance data to boost their report card rankings.

A source within the FBI told The Dispatch that the bureau will work with the Ohio auditor’s office and other agencies to determine whether money was misappropriated as a result of the data scrubbing. Additionally, the source said, the FBI will investigate whether fraud was committed.
