Obama Renews Call for Universal Preschool

0717obamaPresident Barack Obama says he’s serious about making sure all kids have access to preschool.

During his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, Obama said he’s going to renew his push to help states expand their preK programs, an idea he touted last year.

“Research shows one of the best investments we can make in a child’s life is high quality early education,” he said.

Congress has been lukewarm to the idea of giving states federal dollars for these efforts.

So this time, the president says he has reinforcements.

“And as Congress decides what it’s going to do, I’m going to pull together a coalition of elected officials, business leaders, and philanthropists willing to help more kids access the high-quality pre-K they need.”

What that coalition will do remains to be seen.

The administration is continuing its Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge, a competition that enabled states to earn money to develop or expand on early education programs.  That program began in 2011 and so far 20 states have earned the grants, including Ohio.

I hope this gets passed because my school area is charging almost 600$ a month for preschool when I doubt anyone around here can afford that and still be able live. Plus this isn’t even my ideal choice for a school but it’s the area we live in please let this get passed… Thank you
