Kind of like a matchmaker, it tries to connect locally owned restaurants with regional farmers. This summer the organization is hosting a fundraising series of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seacoastlocal.org\/press-releases.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Field and Spoon<\/a>\u201d dinners at farms near the Seacoast.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Reid&#8217;s farm is one of them. He says local farmers are competing with &#8220;the big farm at Logan Airport,&#8221; meaning produce flown in year-round from Mexico and California.\u00a0And while New Hampshire\u2019s neighbors in Vermont have been sourcing food locally for decades, Granite Staters are only now just coming around, thanks to hot-button issues like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/info.nhpr.org\/it-safe-eat-pink-slime\" target=\"_blank\">pink slime<\/a>. As of an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/agriculture.nh.gov\/E81541A5-0D97-46AB-8C8B-50DBEF485DB8\/FinalDownload\/DownloadId-8D07CA90CEEFAE72645D8C0474D8B401\/E81541A5-0D97-46AB-8C8B-50DBEF485DB8\/publications\/documents\/HomeGrownReport_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">April 2010 report<\/a>\u00a0from the University of New Hampshire, only 12 percent of food sold in New Hampshire comes directly from farmers. Others, like the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.t-bones.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> T-Bones<\/a> restaurant franchise in Laconia, only source a few products such as maple syrup and beer. Why?
