It will take at least five years for the 80 hardest-hit areas to recover the jobs they lost, the report forecast.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But what about <a title=\"Your Guide To New Hampshire's Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/newhampshireeconomy\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Hampshire&#8217;s economy<\/a>?\u00a0 Fortunately for us, IHS Global Insight cobbled together this <a title=\"When Different Parts of the Country May Recover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2012\/01\/18\/us\/when-different-parts-of-the-country-may-recover.html?ref=us\" target=\"_blank\">nifty map<\/a> for the Times.\u00a0 (Our reporting follows below.)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5366\"  class=\"wp-caption module image center\" style=\"max-width: 620px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5366\" title=\"When Different Parts Of The Country May Recover\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover-620x441.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover-620x441.jpg 620w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover-220x156.jpg 220w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/When-Different-Parts-Of-The-Country-May-Recover.jpg 970w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">IHS Global Insight \/ New York Times<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"> <\/p><\/div>\n<p><em><\/em>According to IHS estimates, Hillsborough County&#8211;where most of the state&#8217;s jobs are located&#8211;will see economic recovery between 2013 and 2015.\u00a0 In the interest of digging into this question a bit more, StateImpact got in touch with Dennis Delay, an economist at the <a title=\"New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies\" href=\"http:\/\/nhpolicy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The [economic] forecast I did last November called for recovery for the state in late 2013, early 2014,&#8221; Delay told us in an email.\u00a0 &#8220;That means the state will again have 650,000 jobs, which was the number of jobs we had in New Hampshire before the recession began.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As far as the speed of the economic recovery, I am worried about that,&#8221; Delay continued.\u00a0 &#8220;That worry comes from the usual suspects that appear to be slowing growth &#8211; this includes the European debt crisis, continued weakness in housing markets, low consumer and investor confidence, and government at all levels under significant fiscal stress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"related-content alignright\"><h4 class=\"related-header\">Related<\/h4><div class=\"links\"><h5>Posts<\/h5><ul><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/2012\/01\/18\/december-unemployment-drop-just-more-good-news-for-nh-economy-in-2011\/\">December Unemployment Drop Just More \u201cGood News\u201d For NH Economy<\/a><\/li><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/2012\/01\/09\/six-ways-new-hampshire-voters-think-about-jobs-and-the-economy\/\">Six Ways New Hampshire Voters Think About Jobs And The Economy<\/a><\/li><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/2012\/01\/23\/how-a-start-up-incubator-is-racing-against-the-clock-to-create-jobs\/\">How A Start-Up Incubator Is Racing Against The Clock To Create Jobs<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"topics\"><h5>Topics<\/h5><p class=\"topic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/topic\/nh-economy\/\">NH Economy<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div>As for when each region of the state could finally see economic recovery, here&#8217;s Delay&#8217;s best estimates, based on some key economic factors:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a title=\"What You Need To Know About The Seacoast's Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/seacoast\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seacoast<\/a>: The housing market&#8217;s a bit more robust, &#8220;which implies more economic activity.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"What You Need To Know About The Merrimack Valley\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/merrimack-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\">Southeast<\/a>: Like most of the rest of the state, Hillsborough County hasn&#8217;t seen unemployment go up.\u00a0 And thanks to its most-populated county status, it&#8217;s got the biggest workforce&#8211;and the most jobs&#8211;which gives it a built-in economic advantage.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"How The Monadnock Region's Economy Works\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/monadnock-region\/\" target=\"_blank\">West<\/a>: Historically, the Keene area hasn&#8217;t experienced the fast growth that the rest of New Hampshire has.\u00a0 But it also hasn&#8217;t fallen as hard during the recession.\u00a0 So this part of the state will have a shorter slog toward recovery.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"How The Lakes Region Economy Works\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/lakes-region\/\" target=\"_blank\">Central\/Lakes Region<\/a>: <a title=\"The Temperamental Economics Of Tourism\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/tourism\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tourism<\/a> and <a title=\"Building A New Manufacturing Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/manufacturing\/\" target=\"_blank\">manufacturing<\/a> are the main drivers of this regional economy.\u00a0 Delay notes, &#8220;They both appear to be doing fairly well right now,&#8221; which bodes well for recovery.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"The Ultimate Guide To The North Country Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/tag\/north-country\/\" target=\"_blank\">North Country<\/a>: This region&#8217;s been struggling to bring in more jobs for some time.\u00a0 Meanwhile, its population is aging.\u00a0 &#8220;Unfortunately,&#8221;
