So we&#8217;ve visited the candidates&#8217; websites and done a spot of side research, examining their views on various economic policies.\u00a0 And we&#8217;ve generated a bullet-pointed cheat sheet&#8230;kind of a basic guide to where the Republican presidential candidates stand on a number of key economy-related issues.<\/p>\n<p>This is by no means an exhaustive list of the candidates&#8217; views.*\u00a0 It&#8217;s an overview of major points they&#8217;ve cited in their campaign websites and the little things that caught our eye.<\/p>\n<p>We <em>aren&#8217;t<\/em> looking at why the candidates are proposing what they are, the feasibility of their plans, or analyzing possible consequences.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what months&#8217; worth of national political coverage has been for.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we just want to give you a decent starting point as you prepare to vote in the primary, indulge in heated debates, listen to election coverage, plot your political strategy, or otherwise participate in this mainstay piece of election-year Americana.<\/p>\n<p>Before we kick-off the candidate-by-candidate overview, here&#8217;s a brief list of some points we&#8217;ve found where the Republican contenders agree:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Repeal the <a title=\"PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sec.gov\/about\/laws\/wallstreetreform-cpa.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Affordable Care Act<\/a> (aka: &#8220;Obamacare&#8221; in conservative circles)<\/li>\n<li>Repeal or defund the <a title=\"Dodd-Frank Act\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sec.gov\/about\/laws\/wallstreetreform-cpa.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dodd-Frank Act<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Eliminate the estate tax (aka: &#8220;death tax&#8221; in conservative circles)<\/li>\n<li>Eliminate or privatize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac<\/li>\n<li>Balance the budget (although the means vary)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So with all that in mind, we now present The Ultimate NH Primary Cheat Sheet:<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_4694\"  class=\"wp-caption module image left\" style=\"max-width: 150px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4694\" title=\"Gingrich Campaigns One Day Before Iowa Caucuses\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889-140x140.jpg 140w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/files\/2012\/01\/136341889-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Andrew Burton \/ Getty Images<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><a title=\"The Gingrich Jobs And Growth Plan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newt.org\/solutions\/jobs-economy\" target=\"_blank\">Newt Gingrich<\/a><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Personal Taxes:<\/strong> Make Bush tax cuts permanent.\u00a0 Create 15 percent optional flat income tax, keeping deductions for mortgage interest and charitable giving.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Corporate Taxes:\u00a0 <\/strong>Cut income tax rate to 12.5 percent.\u00a0 Allow companies to expense new equipment purchases.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Spending:\u00a0 <\/strong>Of all the candidates, Gingrich remains the murkiest on where, exactly, he proposes spending cuts (although he says he supports them).\u00a0 His campaign website offers no specifics.\u00a0 After trolling the internet, we decided to check in with the conservative <a title=\"The Cato Institute\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cato.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cato Institute<\/a>.\u00a0 In a <a title=\"A Guide to the Presidential Candidates' Proposals to Cut Spending\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downsizinggovernment.org\/a-guide-presidential-candidates-proposals-cut-spending\" target=\"_blank\">comparison of Republican candidates<\/a>, they found one department&#8211;Education&#8211;that Gingrich appeared to be in favor of cutting.\u00a0 They did not, however, find a specific dollar figure tied to that proposed cut.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Other: <\/strong>Repeal the <a title=\"Sarbanes Oxley Act\" href=\"http:\/\/frwebgate.access.gpo.gov\/cgi-bin\/getdoc.cgi?dbname=107_cong_public_laws&amp;docid=f:publ204.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002<\/a>.
