That\u2019s concerning some economists in the state, who came together this week to discuss challenges at a lunch sponsored by the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dennis Delay of the Center for Public Policy Studies says the popular notion that New Hampshire is a fast-growing state with a lot of in-migration is no longer accurate. In fact, he says, it\u2019s starting to reverse.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"related-content alignright\"><h4 class=\"related-header\">Related<\/h4><div class=\"links\"><h5>Posts<\/h5><ul><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/2012\/09\/20\/n-h-has-lowest-child-poverty-rate-in-u-s\/\">N.H. Has Lowest Child Poverty Rate In\u00a0U.S.<\/a><\/li><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/2012\/09\/20\/new-hampshire-fares-well-in-american-community-survey\/\">New Hampshire Fares Well In American Community Survey<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"topics\"><h5>Topics<\/h5><p class=\"topic\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/new-hampshire\/topic\/census-bureau\/\">Census Bureau<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div>Brian Gottlob, a free-market economist and principle of PolEcon, says that while Massachusetts added 41,000 jobs between August 2011 and August 2012, New Hampshire lost 2,000. \u201cTo think that a neighbor, whose policies we often deride, is adding jobs at that rate,\u201d Gottlob said, \u201cand Vermont, another state we typically deride for its policies added about 3,000 jobs over the year.\u201d Gottlob called the state\u2019s performance \u201cstunning,\u201d and \u201cuncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just jobs numbers on the line. The rate of New Hampshire\u2019s population growth and private investment growth is slowing, says Delay &#8212; two other indicators of economic health.<\/p>\n<p>Echoing the concerns of Delay and Gottlob, the state\u2019s Community College System chancellor Ross Gittell said he believes the state needs to invest in infrastructure.
