Instead he&#8217;s created <a title=\"Let The Decision-Making Begin: Governor\u2019s Health Care Working Groups Kick Off\u00a0Today\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/08\/02\/let-the-decision-making-begin-governors-health-care-working-groups-kick-off-today\/\" target=\"_blank\">two study groups<\/a> to weigh the state&#8217;s options and advise the best route.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pate is frustrated with how ideological the health care reform debate has been in Idaho. <del><\/del> He believes most people here would prefer a measured approach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t like everything about the reform act, but it is the law, and we ought to figure out what to do,&#8221; Pate says.<\/p>\n<p>Pate does support the Medicaid expansion and he wants to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/G7BKN2R\" target=\"_blank\">hear from Idahoans<\/a> on whether the state should allow more people to enroll in the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t think the people are as polarized as the politicians are,&#8221; Pate says.\u00a0 &#8220;It seemed to me the people were willing to be pragmatic about it.&#8221;\u00a0 He&#8217;s hopeful his unscientific polls could eventually\u00a0<del><\/del> influence policy.<\/p>\n<p>A consulting firm hired by the state estimates if Idaho expands Medicaid, about 100,000 more people would become eligible for the low-income health care program.\u00a0 The federal government will pay for that expansion for the first two years, but after that Idaho will be on the hook for roughly 10 percent of those costs.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s not clear what 10 percent actually costs.<\/p>\n<p>Pate plans to keep his Medicaid survey open until the end of the week.\u00a0 He says about 60 people have participated so far.\u00a0 You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/G7BKN2R\" target=\"_blank\">find the survey here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CEO of Idaho&#8217;s largest health system, St. Luke&#8217;s, is asking readers of his blog what they think Idaho should do about expanding Medicaid.
