{"id":9099,"date":"2012-07-13T12:12:50","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T18:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/?p=9099"},"modified":"2012-07-13T14:23:59","modified_gmt":"2012-07-13T20:23:59","slug":"idaho-boosts-rainy-day-account-thanks-to-improved-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/07\/13\/idaho-boosts-rainy-day-account-thanks-to-improved-revenue\/","title":{"rendered":"Idaho Boosts Rainy Day Account Thanks To Improved Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_9100\"  class=\"wp-caption module image center\" style=\"max-width: 620px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"Click to enlarge.\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/07\/FY-2012-Rev-Report.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-9100\" title=\"FY 2012 Rev Report\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/07\/FY-2012-Rev-Report-620x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/07\/FY-2012-Rev-Report-620x194.jpg 620w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/07\/FY-2012-Rev-Report-300x94.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/07\/FY-2012-Rev-Report.jpg 1477w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Divison of Financial Management<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click to enlarge.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Idaho&#8217;s fiscal year-end <a href=\"http:\/\/dfm.idaho.gov\/Publications\/EAB\/GFRR\/GFRR2013\/GFRevenueReport_July2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">tax revenue report, <\/a>which came out today, shows collections exceeded forecasts by $35 million or 1.4 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The Division of Financial Management says sales tax and corporate income tax collections were 7.2 percent <a href=\"http:\/\/dfm.idaho.gov\/Publications\/EAB\/GFRR\/GFRR2013\/GFRevenueReport_July2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">higher than expected<\/a>.\u00a0 Miscellaneous receipts exceeded its forecast by 24.2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The piece of Idaho&#8217;s revenue stream that didn&#8217;t perform as expected was individual income taxes.\u00a0 Collections were about <a href=\"http:\/\/dfm.idaho.gov\/Publications\/EAB\/GFRR\/GFRR2013\/GFRevenueReport_July2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">$13 million under forecast<\/a>, which DFM says is because of higher-than-anticipated tax returns.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>State analysts predicted Idaho&#8217;s main bank account would grow at a rate of 4.4 percent in 2012, but total collections ended up growing by 5.9 percent.\u00a0 That puts total revenue at $2.58 billion for the fiscal year.\u00a0 The increase signals another sign Idaho&#8217;s economy is making a turnaround.<\/p>\n<p>Governor C.L. &#8220;Butch&#8221; Otter said in a press release he&#8217;s pleased with the economy&#8217;s growth.\u00a0 &#8220;We begin fiscal 2013 with a lot of uncertainty about the national and global economies and fiscal policies, but with a higher level of certainty and stability in Idaho\u2019s State government,&#8221; Otter said. &#8220;That should translate into still more opportunity for growth and future prosperity here at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the positive revenue growth, the state has been able to set aside more than $85 million for its rainy day accounts.\u00a0 Those funds were drained during the <a title=\"Defining the Recession\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/topic\/recession\/\" target=\"_blank\">Great Recession<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Idaho&#8217;s fiscal year-end tax revenue report, which came out today, shows collections exceeded forecasts by $35 million or 1.4 percent.
