C.L. &#8220;Butch&#8221; Otter.\u00a0 It was short and to-the-point.\u00a0 &#8220;We call on Governor Otter to honor the spirit of the Supreme Court decision on the health care act and accept the federal financial help offered,&#8221; it began.<\/p>\n<p>It was posted last Wednesday.\u00a0 &#8220;On Thursday, there were 50 people who had signed up,&#8221; Cavanaugh said today.\u00a0 &#8220;Now I\u2019m up to 1,824!\u00a0 They want me to take it to the Governor when it gets to 2,000!&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"related-content alignleft\"><h4 class=\"related-header\">Related<\/h4><div class=\"links\"><h5>Posts<\/h5><ul><li class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/07\/10\/gov-otter-favors-further-study-of-health-care-decision\/\">Gov. Do not let party lines blind you to what is right,&#8221; writes Lesley Mercill from Rexburg.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanaugh says he didn&#8217;t write the petition out of personal need, but based on principle.\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m a retired federal employee,&#8221; he explains.\u00a0 &#8220;I have the same insurance that the president has.\u00a0 But that doesn&#8217;t mean I don&#8217;t want the same for other people!\u00a0 The more the merrier!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0712\/78376.html\" target=\"_blank\">Unlike Republican governors in some other states<\/a>, Gov. Otter has so far resisted a flat-out rejection of the Medicaid expansion.\u00a0 Tuesday, the governor <a title=\"Gov. Otter Favors \u201cFurther Study\u201d Of Health Care Decision\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/07\/10\/gov-otter-favors-further-study-of-health-care-decision\/\" target=\"_blank\">issued an op-ed<\/a> saying he is in the process of establishing two working groups to address the <a title=\"Supreme Court Ruling Means Decisions Ahead For Idaho Lawmakers\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/06\/29\/supreme-court-ruling-means-decisions-ahead-for-idaho-lawmakers\/\" target=\"_blank\">main questions raised by the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some Republican legislative leaders, however, are a bit more riled.\u00a0 House Speaker Lawerence Denney (R-Midvale) and House Majority Leader Mike Moyle (R-Star) <a href=\"http:\/\/magicvalley.com\/blogs\/capitol-confidential\/denney-moyle-encourage-idaho-to-not-implement-affordable-care-act\/article_6aaa3422-cb9a-11e1-a311-001a4bcf887a.html\" target=\"_blank\">today issued a joint statement<\/a> saying that Idaho should not implement the health care law.\u00a0 &#8220;Resistance usually comes at a cost, but the state of Idaho must resist Obamacare,&#8221; they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
