C.L. &#8220;Butch&#8221; Otter.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/commerce.idaho.gov\/business\/2010-idaho-economic-advisory-council-\/\" target=\"_blank\">Idaho Economic Advisory Council <\/a>last week reviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/commerce.idaho.gov\/development-block-grants\/economic-advisory-council-eac\/\" target=\"_blank\">communities&#8217; applications<\/a> for federal Community Development Block Grant funding.<\/p>\n<p>Among the requests approved by the council was $500,000 in funding to upgrade Twin Falls&#8217; municipal water system.\u00a0 That upgrade is necessary to support the area&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2011\/11\/03\/a-first-look-at-the-cost-of-chobanis-manufacturing-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\">new Chobani Yogurt facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A second $500,000 allocation will partially cover the cost of improving the town of Fairfield&#8217;s water system.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As <em>StateImpact Idaho<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/04\/11\/idaho-communities-compete-for-dollars-as-grant-funds-drop\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported last week<\/a>, funding for the Idaho <a href=\"http:\/\/portal.hud.gov\/hudportal\/HUD?src=\/program_offices\/comm_planning\/communitydevelopment\/programs\" target=\"_blank\">Community Development Block Grant Program<\/a> has gone down by a quarter over the last two years.\u00a0 Idaho Department of Commerce Community Development Manager Dennis Porter says the program has about $10 million available this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Advisory Council approved nearly $6 million in grant requests last week, in what was only the first of four rounds of funding requests to be considered this year.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, what Porter said in an interview last week holds true.\u00a0 &#8220;We run into more demand than dollars,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 15 Idaho counties and communities will receive grant funding for development projects, pending approval from Gov.
