Richards \/ AFP\/Getty Images<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A teacher prepares for class.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Another day, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aauw.org\/learn\/research\/upload\/simpletruthaboutpaygap1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">another study<\/a> that places Idaho among the worst states in terms of the gender pay gap.<\/p>\n<p>This time, it&#8217;s the American Association of University Women that&#8217;s tracking the disparities in men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s earnings by state.\u00a0 The AAUW study <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aauw.org\/learn\/research\/upload\/state-by-state-wage-chart.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">places<\/a> Idaho 43rd, based on federal data from 2010.<\/p>\n<p>What does placing 43rd mean?\u00a0 Well, median pay for a full-time worker in Idaho is $41,128, if that worker is a man.\u00a0 If the worker is a woman, it&#8217;s $30,403.\u00a0 Put in other terms, women in Idaho earn about 74 percent as much as men.<\/p>\n<p>As the study points out, these differences cannot be explained away by differences in men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s educational and occupational choices.\u00a0 However, the &#8220;segregation of occupations&#8221; does contribute to the pay gap.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not the first time we&#8217;ve noted Idaho&#8217;s gender wage disparity.\u00a0 Last month, the financial news and commentary site 24\/7 Wall Street <a href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/03\/12\/in-boise-womens-wages-are-among-nations-worst\/\" target=\"_blank\">ranked Boise the eight worst city<\/a>, based on this measure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another day, another study that places Idaho among the worst states in terms of the gender pay gap.
