Western Aircraft is the primary provider of services to non-resident customers and they make up the vast majority of these annual tax receipts. With passage of this Act, Western Aircraft, will add 12 full-time employees at an average annual salary of $54,538.&#8221; &#8211; HB 417 Statement of Purpose<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_6248\"  class=\"wp-caption module image left\" style=\"max-width: 300px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"Western Aircraft's main office building in Boise.\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/04\/Western-Aircraft.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6248\" title=\"Western Aircraft\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/04\/Western-Aircraft-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/04\/Western-Aircraft-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/04\/Western-Aircraft.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Western Aircraft<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Western Aircraft&#39;s main office building in Boise.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.westair.com\/company\/careers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Western Aircraft<\/a> president Jeff Mihalic says the company is on its way to hiring the dozen people it promised lawmakers.\u00a0 Mihalic says the company&#8217;s five year plan is to create 100 new jobs.\u00a0 He says the 6 percent sales tax exemption makes Western Aircraft more competitive with other states in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re optimistic about the additional business this will bring,&#8221; says Mihalic.\u00a0 &#8220;Our market has been west of the Rockies \u2013 but with this legislation we are going after a bigger market, marketing as far east as Ohio, we&#8217;ve already had some success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The airplane-part exemption is effective now through June 30, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers <a href=\"http:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/legislation\/2012\/H0489.htm\" target=\"_blank\">unanimously agreed<\/a> to get rid of the tax on free beer and wine samples.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right.\u00a0 Those little sips of wine offered at tastings had a tax attached.\u00a0 <em>Capital Press<\/em> reports the Idaho Tax Commission recently sent the Wine Commission a letter asking its members to pay the 6 percent use tax on all those samples.\u00a0 Both commissions thought nixing the tax made sense.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Besides wine and beer, it would also exempt products such as apple cider and grape juice given as free samples at farmers&#8217; markets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is great tax policy and it&#8217;s good for our business owners,&#8221; IWC Legislative Educator Roger Batt told members of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, which unanimously supported the legislation Feb. 21.<\/p>\n<p>Cinder winery owner Melanie Krause said the actual tracking of the free samples is the biggest cost for her business when it comes to the use tax.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the tracking that&#8217;s the nightmare, that&#8217;s a (big) cost,&#8221; she said.&#8221; &#8211; Capital Press<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lawmakers also voted to expand a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.idaho.gov\/legislation\/2012\/H0485.htm\" target=\"_blank\">tax deduction for energy efficiency upgrades<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Sen.
