{"id":3888,"date":"2012-01-18T11:28:10","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T18:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/?p=3888"},"modified":"2012-01-18T11:28:10","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T18:28:10","slug":"defense-training-firm-moving-headquarters-to-twin-falls-idaho","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2012\/01\/18\/defense-training-firm-moving-headquarters-to-twin-falls-idaho\/","title":{"rendered":"Defense Training Firm Moving Headquarters to Twin Falls, Idaho"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3889\"  class=\"wp-caption module image left\" style=\"max-width: 300px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"LMS Defense currently has 17 employees nationwide.\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/01\/combat-dev-300x200.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3889\" title=\"combat-dev-300x200\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/01\/combat-dev-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/01\/combat-dev-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2012\/01\/combat-dev-300x200-220x146.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">LMS Defense Inc.<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">LMS Defense currently has 17 employees nationwide.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Idaho Department of Commerce announced this morning a full service defensive training firm is relocating its Reno, Nevada corporate headquarters to Twin Falls, Idaho.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lmsdefense.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">LMS Defense, Inc.<\/a> specializes in counterterrorism training to the United States military, law enforcement and security professionals.\u00a0 LMS Founder and CEO John Chapman says he&#8217;ll hire five people locally for administrative support at their new Twin Falls headquarters.\u00a0 Chapman plans to hire between 15 and 20 additional people when a new training facility is built in late summer.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Chapman decided to relocate his company in part because he wants to live in Idaho, but he also wants to be more centrally located in the northwest.\u00a0 Chapman says while business taxes are lower in Nevada than in Idaho, &#8220;the overall business climate is better in Idaho&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;The bureaucracy and the difficulty of doing business is much higher in Nevada,&#8221; Chapman says.<\/p>\n<p>LMS made its announcement at the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotshow.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">SHOT Show<\/a> in Las Vegas.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s more from the commerce department&#8217;s press release:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>LMS also discussed plans for a comprehensive counterterrorism training\/education center to be located in Twin Falls County to provide critical response and tactical training to civilian forces throughout the Northwest. The site will also include a R&amp;D testing facility for products and systems used in field operations for military and civilian security forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelocating our corporate headquarters to Twin Falls will allow us to grow the business in a more business-friendly environment with plans to expand counterterrorism training, defense, and R&amp;D testing for law enforcement officers in Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Montana,\u201d said John Chapman, founder and CEO of LMS Defense.\u00a0 \u201cSouthern Idaho is an ideal location to support our efforts throughout the Northwest to train law enforcement on unique tactics and skills that must be applied in handling domestic terrorism events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLMS\u2019 future training facility will provide vital collaborative instruction to Idaho\u2019s law enforcement community as well as throughout the northwest region,\u201d said Brigadier General Bill Shawver, director of the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security. \u201cA regional approach to enhancing the preparation of law enforcement officers for potential terrorist incidents will be critical to effectively managing high consequence situations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The company hopes to collaborate with Idaho National Lab (INL), the Bureau of Homeland Security, Twin Falls County Sheriff\u2019s Department and the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) as well as other businesses\/organizations to help \u201cfast track\u201d needed training and support for field operations.<\/p>\n<p>LMS\u2019s future center will also be utilized as an extensive R&amp;D facility to test and determine value of new products and systems prior to field operations<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mission at INL includes National and Homeland Security technology development. To have an alternative location in Idaho to test and evaluate small arms-related technologies appears to be an excellent expansion opportunity,\u201d said Stephanie Cook, of INL\u2019s Technology Deployment Department. \u201cHaving a unique testing capability in our own back yard may prove to be a tremendous asset to the region, state of Idaho and INL.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to welcome LMS Defense as the newest member of Idaho&#8217;s corporate community,\u201d said Jeffery Sayer, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce. \u201cThe movement of LMS Defense&#8217;s corporate headquarters to Twin Falls is a tremendous opportunity for the state to partner with the local economic development leaders to create a cluster of companies in the area that have an interest in military and law enforcement training, or firearm related industries.
