{"id":3128,"date":"2011-12-22T14:33:27","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T21:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/?p=3128"},"modified":"2011-12-22T14:50:47","modified_gmt":"2011-12-22T21:50:47","slug":"benefits-for-long-term-unemployed-may-be-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2011\/12\/22\/benefits-for-long-term-unemployed-may-be-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"Benefits for Long-Term Unemployed May Be Extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>House Republicans have <a href=\"http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/US_PAYROLL_TAX?SITE=AP&amp;SECTION=HOME&amp;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a> reversed their stance on extending a payroll tax cut and benefits for the long-term unemployed this afternoon.\u00a0 The <em>Associated Press <\/em>and<em> Reuters<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/12\/22\/us-usa-taxes-idUSTRE7B827K20111222\" target=\"_blank\">report <\/a>the House will vote on the measure.<\/p>\n<p>This means about 12,000 Idahoans who&#8217;ve been out of work for more than six months will continue to receive <a title=\"Understanding Federal Unemployment Insurance Benefits\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2011\/11\/16\/understanding-federal-unemployment-insurance-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\">extended federal benefits<\/a> for at least the next two months, if the measure passes.\u00a0 The Idaho Department of Labor Director Roger Madsen has said he doesn&#8217;t support an extension of benefits.\u00a0 Madsen <a title=\"Labor Director Opposes Extending Unemployment Benefits\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2011\/11\/08\/labor-director-opposes-extending-unemployment-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\">has suggested<\/a> Idaho legislators and the governor will reject any further benefit extensions.<\/p>\n<p>Governor C.L. &#8220;Butch&#8221; Otter told <em>StateImpact Idaho<\/em> the state <a title=\"Governor Otter: The State Can\u2019t Reject a Federal Unemployment Benefit Extension\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2011\/12\/20\/governor-otter-the-state-cant-reject-a-federal-unemployment-benefit-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\">doesn&#8217;t have authority<\/a> to reject federal benefits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House Republicans have reportedly reversed their stance on extending a payroll tax cut and benefits for the long-term unemployed this afternoon.\u00a0 The Associated Press and Reuters report the House will vote on the measure.
