The agency released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.census.gov\/cbdmap\/\" target=\"_blank\">this map<\/a> today that shows where Idaho&#8217;s businesses are concentrated, their estimated number of employees and the estimated annual payroll.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 data from the American Community Survey shows there were 42,399 businesses in Idaho, employing 482,772 with an annual payroll of $16.8 billion. The statistics don&#8217;t include self-employed businesses, employees of private households, or government.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/censtats.census.gov\/cgi-bin\/cbpnaic\/cbpsect.pl\" target=\"_blank\">data also show<\/a> the vast majority of Idaho&#8217;s businesses, 40,944, employ fewer than 50 people.<!--more--> From 1998 to 2007, the number of businesses here steadily increased, then the recession hit.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/boisestate.edu\/spreadsheet\/oimg?key=0AiLU6Cs5LWZIdEIyZThJaFRGSUdMczFoRVU0a09JSUE&amp;oid=1&amp;zx=diuq83wwjig8\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The number of businesses in Idaho hasn&#8217;t met or exceeded the 2007 pre-recession peak. But total payroll has started to climb.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/boisestate.edu\/spreadsheet\/oimg?key=0AiLU6Cs5LWZIdEIyZThJaFRGSUdMczFoRVU0a09JSUE&amp;oid=2&amp;zx=u1sikkz8d6i3\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nWith 11,898 businesses in Ada County, it&#8217;s no surprise Idaho&#8217;s population center had the largest number of companies in 2011.
