C.L. &#8220;Butch&#8221; Otter <a title=\"Governor Otter: Lawmakers May Not Come Up With A Personal Property Tax Plan This Year\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2013\/02\/05\/governor-otter-lawmakers-may-not-come-up-with-a-personal-property-tax-plan-this-year\/\">made a little news<\/a> yesterday with his uncertainty about whether lawmakers will come up with a plan for phasing out or eliminating the state&#8217;s <a title=\"The Ultimate Guide To Idaho\u2019s Personal Property Tax\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/topic\/personal-property-tax\/\">tax on business personal property<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether we\u2019re going to get anything done this year or not, I can\u2019t predict that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking to county leaders, a crowd that has pushed back against the idea of eliminating the tax. Nevertheless, it was a notable statement. The governor and others have <a title=\"Gov. Otter\u2019s State Of The State Speech Sets His Agenda For Idaho Legislature\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/2013\/01\/07\/gov-otters-state-of-the-state-speech-sets-his-agenda-for-idaho-legislature\/\">made the issue a top priority<\/a> for this legislative session.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about Otter&#8217;s comment today, House Revenue and Taxation Committee chairman Gary Collins (R-Nampa) said discussions on the personal property tax are ongoing.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don\u2019t know that we\u2019ve stopped, or anything like that,&#8221; Collins said. &#8220;There is no piece of legislation. I can say that much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He wouldn&#8217;t share details about the particular hang-ups, but indicated big questions remain. &#8220;It\u2019s just \u2013 trying to decide where we\u2019re going to go and how,&#8221; Collins said of the current process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
