The company was split up.\u00a0 A group of investors formed Albertson&#8217;s LLC and bought the company\u2019s underperforming stores.\u00a0 Minnesota-based Supervalu purchased the rest.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Since then, Albertson\u2019s Boise-based workforce has <a title=\"A Timeline Of Albertsons In Idaho\" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/topic\/albertsons\/\" target=\"_blank\">shrunk from between 5,000 and 6,000<\/a> to under 4,000. \u00a0But to many in the city, it\u2019s still a hometown company.\u00a0 And this deal means all of its stores will be together again.<\/p>\n<p>Christine Wilcox, the communications director for Albertson\u2019s LLC, says the value of reuniting the stores under one owner isn\u2019t just symbolic.<em>\u00a0 <\/em>&#8220;Albertson&#8217;s LLC has said all along that we\u2019re interested in making the right acquisitions,&#8221; she says.\u00a0 &#8220;We know these stores and these businesses very well, and we\u2019re just excited to have the opportunity to drive growth in these market areas again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>Albertson&#8217;s LLC is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, the private company that led the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cerberuscapital.com\/news\/supervalu_announces_definitive_agreement_for_sale_banners_to_cerberus-led_invinvestor_group\" target=\"_blank\">deal<\/a>.\u00a0 In addition to the Albertsons stores, Cerberus acquired Supervalu&#8217;s Acme, Jewel-Osco, Shaw&#8217;s and Star Market chains.<\/p>\n<p>Wilcox says not only will today&#8217;s sale create a unified brand. \u00a0Albertsons could also benefit by being privately owned rather than publicly traded.\u00a0 But there was one key question Wilcox did not answer: what this deal might mean for Albertsons\u2019 jobs.\u00a0 Albertson&#8217;s LLC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idahostatesman.com\/2013\/01\/10\/2407466\/supervalu-to-sell-albertsons-4.html\" target=\"_blank\">closed most of the stores<\/a> it took on in 2006.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All Albertsons stores will again be under the same ownership.\u00a0 That\u2019s one effect of a $3.3 billion deal announced Thursday between private investment company Cerberus Capital Management and grocery chain Supervalu.
