That&#8217;s\u00a0according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/dfm.idaho.gov\/Publications\/EAB\/Forecast\/2011\/July\/iefjul2011.html\" target=\"_blank\">2011 Idaho Economic Forecast<\/a> which is published by the Division of Financial Management.\u00a0 The retail and wholesale trade part of this sector is also expected to grow.\u00a0 According to the report, Idaho&#8217;s trade sector shed more than 10,500 jobs in retail and wholesale trade between 2007 and 2010.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This sector&#8217;s return to growth is especially important because it is the largest private employer in the state.&#8221; &#8211; Derek E. Santos, Economist, Idaho Division of Financial Management<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><!--more-->Manufacturing: <\/strong>July stats from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics <\/a>show manufacturing makes up almost nine percent of Idaho&#8217;s economy (trade, transportation and utilities is the largest sector at more than 20 percent).\u00a0 State forecasters say manufacturing will be a &#8220;mixed bag&#8221; but they\u00a0predict growth starting this year. The director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/cobe.boisestate.edu\/%20\" target=\"_blank\">College of Business and Economics<\/a> at Boise State University, Brian Greber,\u00a0says one of the first things to pick up out of a recession are those companies that make things.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;As business investment slows, there is a significant step down in companies that supply infrastructure.&#8221; &#8211; Brian Greber, Director, College of Business and Economics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>High Tech:\u00a0<\/strong>It&#8217;s been a volatile industry for the Gem State due in large part to the high-tech implosion in 2002.\u00a0 Computers and electronics were Idaho&#8217;s largest manufacturing employer when it peaked at 19,700 jobs in 2001 but has since lost jobs, in some cases by double-digits, in every year since.\u00a0 Now, state economists are predicting the sector will remain stable in the next four years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_157\" class=\"module image center mceTemp\" style=\"width: 620px;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" title=\"Sizing Up Idaho's Economy \" href=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart.jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-157\" title=\"Chase_GDPChart\" src=\"http:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart-620x432.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart-620x432.jpg 620w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart-220x153.jpg 220w, https:\/\/stateimpact.npr.org\/idaho\/files\/2011\/09\/Chase_GDPChart.jpg 1156w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>U.S. Department of Commerce\/JP Morgan ChaseSizing Up Idaho&#8217;s Economy<\/div>\n<p><strong>Natural Resources:<\/strong> This sector includes traditional resources like mining and timber plus emerging resources like solar, wind and geothermal energy.\u00a0 Idaho&#8217;s Division of Financial Management\u00a0forecasts growth in logging and wood products as the demand for new housing creeps forward in the next four years.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Mining is benefiting from high metal prices. Wood products employment will grow as demand recovers with the housing sector.&#8221; &#8211; Derek E.
