The <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.idahostatesman.com\/2012\/11\/27\/idahopolitics\/not_so_fast_how_conventional_wisdom_may_be_wrong_bid_oust_idaho_#wgt=rcntnews\" target=\"_blank\">contest for the top job in the House<\/a> is closely watched, with current Speaker Lawerence Denney (R-Midvale) and Assistant Majority Leader Scott Bedke (R-Oakley) vying for the post. \u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>House Republicans will caucus at Crane Creek, a Boise country club.\u00a0 Senate Republicans will meet at the Owyhee Plaza Hotel.\u00a0 House Democrats will meet at Smoky Mountain Pizzeria, and Senate Democrats will caucus at a private home.<\/p>\n<p>Committee chairmanships and assignments will be determined during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.idaho.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thursday&#8217;s organizational session<\/a>.\u00a0 Some expect that task could extend into Friday, given the number of new lawmakers and vacant committee chairmanships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Idaho lawmakers are in Boise this week ahead of the 2013 legislative session, which starts January 7.\u00a0 Beginning this afternoon, there&#8217;s a new legislator orientation for the more than 30 percent of lawmakers who are newcomers.
