That\u2019s just looking at fiscal years 2008 to\u00a02011.<\/p>\n<p>CBPP&#8217;s method accounts for inflation.\u00a0 The Department of Education&#8217;s method does not.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what the <em>Statesman<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idahostatesman.com\/2012\/09\/11\/2266815\/numbers-put-idahos-priorities.html\" target=\"_blank\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;By no means is Idaho alone. As the report points out, 35 states cut per-pupil spending over the past five years, and 26 reduced this spending from 2011-12 to 2012-13. What is troubling is the fact that, according to this report, Idaho\u2019s cuts were among the deepest in the nation \u2014 and continued, to a lesser degree, even when the economy showed signs of improvement.<\/p>\n<p>These are the kind of decisions that keep Idaho\u2019s per-pupil spending holding firm at No. 50 in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>State schools superintendent Tom Luna\u2019s office disputes the report\u2019s math. Spokeswoman Melissa McGrath tells StateImpact Idaho that per-pupil spending dropped nearly 12 percent from 2008 to 2011.<\/p>\n<p>That isn\u2019t much of an improvement.&#8221; &#8211; Idaho Statesman<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div>The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/files\/9-4-12sfp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">ranked the 50 states<\/a> in order of which states cut per-student spending the most.\u00a0 By their measure, Idaho is at number four.\u00a0 By the Idaho Department of Education&#8217;s measure, the state is still in the top half, at number 12.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Idaho Statesman&#8217;s latest editorial is in response to two stories StateImpact posted on Idaho&#8217;s education funding cuts.
